The Navigation, Open Crossings, Surf and Swell, Tides and Weather Modules are aimed at anyone wanting to gain knowledge and develop in the specific areas of interest and cover a range of topics. Each module can be done as face-to-face/blended learning or as an eLearning package. Each module grants you 5 CPD points.

Course Content
- The Navigation for Paddlers module introduces both pre-trip planning and on-the-water navigating, including when you may need to change your plan. Topics covered in this module include:
- Handrailing
- Collection points
- Aiming off and attack points
- Estimating speed and distance
- Taking a compass bearing
- The Open Crossings module introduces paddlers to crossings in both tidal and non-tidal waters. Topics include:
- Dead reckoning
- Calculating set and drift
- Working out position
- Potential dangers and considerations
- The Surf and Swell module gives paddlers an introduction to ground and wind swell, as well as surf forecasts. Topics include:
- Surf and swell
- Environmental considerations
- Waves and rip currents
- Forecasting
- The Tides module is for paddlers of any craft who want to increase their knowledge of how tides can impact paddling in estuaries and coastal waters. Topics include:
- Tidal information for paddlesports
- Environmental considerations
- Tidal flow and tidal windows
- Depth of tide
- The Weather module is for any paddler, whether paddling on inland or coastal waters, wanting to increase knowledge of weather forecasting and how different conditions can affect trips. Topics include:
- Wind
- Visibility and storms
- Interpreting environmental clues
- Understanding synoptic charts and the shipping forecast.
