River Helmsdale Saprolegnia Issue
24 January 2025

Paddle Scotland has been made aware of a Saprolegnia mould issue on the River Helmsdale

The Helmsdale fisheries river manager, Peter Quail, has advised that the River Helmsdale has a Saprolegnia mould issue which is currently under investigation.

Although there is no clear evidence in regards to how the mould is spread, he recommends disinfecting boats and equipment after paddling to prevent potential cross contamination to other rivers. He also mentioned that cleaning with a simple saline solution should suffice.

If anyone is planning to paddle the Helmsdale, please ensure you clean equipment afterwards.๏ปฟ
